UNINFO is the Italian body charged with the development of standards in the sector
of information technology and its applications.
UNINFO is a not for profit, free association of technical nature. The
goal of UNINFO is to promote diffusion and participate in the development
of standards in the area on information technology and its applications.
Its scope includes information and telecommunications processing systems and
their use, also in conjunction with other technologies, in several industry
applications such as banking, smart cards, traffic telematics, industrial
automation.
UNINFO is a non for profit organisation. In this area UNINFO , as a federated
body of UNI, is entitled
to operate under a proxy of UNI at the national and international level and
to represent Italy in ISO, ISO/IEC JTC1 and CEN. Moreover, UNINFO is a full
member of ETSI.
Among the UNINFO members one can mention industrial and commercial enterprises,
public administrations, trade associations, organisations of technical, scientific,
educational or cultural nature which are interested by the standardization
activity carried out in UNINFO, and which contribute to its financial support.
Membership is open to all individuals and organisations, independently of the
country where they are established.
In the sector of ICT - Information and Telecommunications Technologies -
and of their applications:
- UNINFO is the only channel available to Italian organisations to participate in
the standardization activity internationally (ISO, ISO/IEC), at the European
(CEN/ISSS) or national (UNI) level.
- UNINFO is the channel between its members and other not institutional
standardization environments: organisations and fora in Italy, Europe,
or international.
- UNINFO is the channel, open to all interested parties, for timely information
and participation in the standards development activity.
The institutional activity of UNINFO, which is not for profit, consists of:
Monitor the situation of the market and the ongoing standardization activity
Propose topics and solutions as the subject of new standard.
- Foster the contributions to its members to the development of standards.
- Represent the interests of its members in the development of national, European
and international standards in the domain of Information and Communications
Technologies.
- Accredit experts to participate in the standardization activity at European or
international level.
- Select and distribute to the members information on standardization activity
and allow participation.
- Elaborate answers, comments, positions and votes.
- Serve as registration authority for the domains where an international
standard exists.
- Manage and update a web site on the ongoing standardization activities.
- Be a service provider for its members: organize workshops, consult, search
for relevant standards.
- Represent the members' and national interests in the European and international
standardization fora.
Participation in the activity of UNINFO is voluntary and open.
