E-learning courses on
agriculture monitoring and statistics, and environment impact assessment
The project Agriculture Information System is supporting the development of three curricula and
e-learning materials on geospatial technologies for agriculture statistics, monitoring and
environment impact assessment. FAO and the University of Bologna, Italy have signed a letter of
agreement to define and develop the content in collaboration with the Sindh Agriculture University
Tandojam, University of Punjab and SUPARCO (Pakistan) and the ITC University of Twente (Netherlands).
Atlas of Pakistan: KP and FATA
Under national funding and in collaboration with FAO, SUPARCO has compiled and produced the third publication of
the Land Cover Atlas of Pakistan: the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal
Areas (FATA). Through maps and aggregated statistics, this product provides a comprehensive description of the
biotic and abiotic resources of the area. It is based on the recently developed land cover database compiled upon
the FAO's LCCS approach.
ECONET approach and land cover change in Pakistan
FAO has developed and tested in several African countries the ECONET approach in monitoring
land cover changes. The ECONET approach builds upon a systematic sampling of the area of interest against
the traditional "wall-to-wall" mapping, with the advantage of reducing drastically time and costs to
regularly monitoring the same area. The recent availability of Sentinel-2 data has suggested FAO and SUPARCO to test
such approach in a pilot area of Pakistan.
