1st Targeted training course: "Land Cover Classification and Mapping"
12-23 Feb 2012, Islamabad, Pakistan [flyer - PDF, 0.5 MB]
First on-the-job training course aiming to develop local technical
and methodological capacity in conducting land cover mapping activities
according to FAO standards and procedures. Focuses of the trainign are:
- Introduction to practical use in FAO‘s Land Cover Classification
System (LCCS)
- Satellite image interpretation of SPOT and Landsat imagery through
FAO‘s tool box for land cover mapping
- Development of an LCCS legend and database of Punjab and Sindh.
- Field testing of the legend and estabilishment of a production chain
Target group:
Staff from provincial Crop Reporting Services and from SUPARCO with
background in GIS, Remote Sensing, environmental sciences, agroforestry
and cartography.
Expected outcome:
Staff trained in land cover classiffication using LCCS - the FAO
land cover classification system and capable of applying it in
operational land cover mapping.
