Mobile Agricultural Geo-Tagging Information System (MAGIS)

MAGIS is a mobile based application which has been developed to support Pakistan's Crop Reporting Services (CRSs) and their crop reporters in improving data collection efficiency.

The MAGIS system allows collection of digital and georeferenced data in the field and relay these data via the cell phone network or via internet (e.g. WiFi connection at the local office) to the central MAGIS server at the CRS head office. The data on the server will be stored in a database and be accessible to statisticians for further analysis and reporting.

magis workflow

The application workflow includes i) data collection using custom forms; ii) data transfer from field to server; iii) data aggregation and storage; and iv) data analysis.

MAGIS is based on the GeoODK platform, an opensource project providing solutions to manage mobile data collection tasks.

Currently, MAGIS is implemented and is being tested at the Punjab's CRS Headquarter.
